Just watched the amazing 'Prickly Hay' performance.
The children spoke clearly and remembered all their lines.
The teachers have obviously spent a lot of time and effort. Thank you very much.

Safeguarding

On January 6th, at Paul's invitation, Dorset County  Children's Safeguarding Officer, Angela Burr, came into school to spend the morning with Paul and me. My presence was part of my responsibility as Nominated Governor for Child Protection. Angela's first words as she came through into Paul's office were immediately encouraging. She was impressed with the arrangement and monitoring of the main entrance lobby. This set and maintained the standard.

It was a morning well spent. Paul, clearly organised as always, had everything to hand and he and Angela were checking that everything was in order, with the odd interjected question from me seeking  clarification. With one or two minor tweaks,  everything was impressively as  it should be; the priority being that our children are safe and secure in an environment which cares. A few days later Angela sent a useful report to Paul of our meeting. Our governing body is accountable for ensuring that the school has effective safeguarding policies and procedures in place and has a monitoring responsibility for this, which is why Paul and I meet regularly on this subject. I was able to report to the governors that all was, to my mind, exemplary.

Snow Snow and more Snow!

I am sure you were disappointed not to come to school today, but Mr Lavis and I had a long discussion about the weather.  As a result we decided that since the road outside the school had not been gritted it might have been very dangerous under foot.


Many other schools were thinking the same way and we felt that in the interests of your safety we should take the decision to shut the school.  I hope the school will be open again on Monday.

Red Riding Hood

I know it is a week ago, but I came to the show, and thought it was marvellous.  The dancing and the singing were superb, and the characters all played their parts with real energy and conviction.  The set, costumes and technical stuff were all excellent, and the messages came through loud and clear.  Well done everybody!

I can't wait for the next one........

School Production - Little Red Riding Hood And The Wolf

For those of you that were unable to see the School Production of Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, what a performance you missed! 


There were two fantastic performances last Thursday and Friday by the children of  KS2. I would like to say well done to all those that took part and to those involved with putting the production together. Fantastic!

Parent Governor Experience With KS1

Last week i spent a fantastic week with Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and i would like to thank all the Teachers of those year groups for their time.


As a Parent Governor this gave me a great overview of the journey the children take at Blandford St Mary Primary School going from Early Years of Reception through to year 2.  


My week started with Reception and a visit to see Harold and the Life Bus. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt about the human body, how it works and the importance of a healthy life style!


I spent 2 great days with Year 1 where they are currently learning about clocks and time. This theme is carried throughout all subject areas from numeracy, literacy and into their project based work. The children of year 1 were drawing some great pictures of various clock types, from the early Egyptian Sundials through to the modern day clock. They were also learning about time sequences and telling the time!


My last few days were spent in Year 2, who were learning about healthy living, exercise and the effects on the human body. The children of Year 2 put on a Fantastic Class Assembly on Friday 12th November with some great controlled dancing, which was followed by a coffee morning for the Year 2 parents with delicious cakes [made by the Children] & refreshments being served by the children.

Governors' Course

Thursday, September 30th 2010

The Governors' Course, 'Ofsted - Will You Be Ready?' which, along with governors of other schools , five of us from Blandford St Mary governing body attended on September 21st, was presented and conducted by Mrs. Judy Baker, past Head of our school. It was an excellent evening. The course was full of information without being intimidating. Personally, having absorbed the requirements for OFSTED, I feel confident in the good management of the school under our Head and his team. I know that any information I'm unsure of will be explained to me - one only has to ask!  'Keep informed' was a message I took away with me that evening.
